A Place for Inkling Fans and Scholars to stay in Oxford.

A last homely house in Tolkien’s Road where he wrote The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings

Watch to follow along our journey and see each room transform!

In a wonderful collaboration with friends of the centre, we have renovated a home-base in Oxford as a unique place for a community of researchers, post-grads and writers to stay in Oxford. It is located in the same road as Tolkien’s house so we have got as close to our original aim as we possibly could. Those living together will a shared love for the works of the Tolkien, CS Lewis and the other Inklings, we hope it will be creative hub to inspire a new generation. Each day you’ll be able to walk and cycle the same paths as your favourite writers.

You are now able to stay there, so if you are coming to Oxford for a year, a term or sabbatical, or are interested in a writing retreat, please do get in touch. Each room is inspired by the sources for Tolkien’s Middle-earth cultures so you could be staying in an Arts and Crafts Elven bedroom or a Viking dwarven chamber. You can even stay in a gothic orc room!

Those living in the house will have a chance to share their ideas and live as an Inklings family. Who knows: maybe you’ll meet the next Tolkien, Lewis or Williams!
