What we do
The Oxford Centre for Fantasy is dedicated to Professor Tolkien and his writing friends, the Inklings.
Oxford has inspired many generations of fantasy writers, from Lewis Carroll, the grandfather of fantasy with his Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to fellow Inkling, C.S. Lewis, author of the Narnia series, to modern day writers - our aim is to spread that Oxford inspiration to those wanting to be the next generation of fantasy creators.

News in brief
In-person events have begun with two residential courses at the colleges most closely associated with the two most famous Inklings: Merton College, where Tolkien was a professor, and Magdalen College, C.S. Lewis’s college and where the Inklings met to share their stories. We believe this will provide an inspiring authentic experience of walking in their footsteps which we had hoped to do at the house.
Come and visit the real sources for these fantasy worlds in the Shires around Oxford, the standing stones, ancient barrows on the Downs and mills by quiet mill ponds! They’ve not been built by a film crew but have existed for centuries.
Visiting remotely? Come and join our next six-week online course - next one starts in the autumn. You can sign up here.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the campaign for 20 Northmoor Road. Sorry we did not succeed! It has been wonderful to hear messages of support from so many of you and to learn about your love for our favourite author. There are more details about your donations and the story of the campaign here.
Join us in Oxford on-line now, and in-person as soon as you can!
